Electric Vehicle Charge Point Grant

You can use the EV Charge Point Grant to fund the installation of public EV charge points in the car parks of community buildings and village halls within South Cambridgeshire. The maximum award is £5000.

Apply for an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Grant

Who can apply

  • parish councils (parish councils seeking to run EV charge points must have General Power of Competence to charge customers for energy used by the EV charge points)
  • village halls, community centres, and community building trusts
  • charitable and not-for-profit organisations involved in running village halls, community centres, and community buildings with parking.

Before starting your application

When considering a site for an EV charge point, think of the following:

  • are there nearby attractions or facilities for drivers to access? Are they within walking distance?
  • will the EV charge point be easily seen by the public? Are EV drivers likely to use it?
  • are there nearby homes without private driveways that could benefit from a public charger?
  • would a driver feel safe leaving their car to charge?
  • what funding model will you use to run the your EV charge points? Find out more about costs and EV charge point operating models

Other factors to think about:

  • will you add signs and bay markings to identify EV-only parking spaces?
  • will you reduce installation costs by minimising the distance between EV charge points and the electricity supply?
  • will you ensure pedestrians can access the charger and parking space?
  • will you add barriers in front of an EV charge point to reduce possible damage by cars?
  • will the EV charge points take contactless payments to make it easier for drivers to use?

You can carry out a site survey for free. You can do this by contacting an approved EV Charger Installer. A list of approved installers can be found on the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles website.
