Chair and Cabinet members

There are 45 elected councillors who represent South Cambridgeshire’s communities. The political administration is Liberal Democrat, as they hold most of the seats on the council.


8 councillors from the political party make up the council cabinet which sets the strategic and political direction of the council. You can find more information about these 8 councillors and their roles in the profiles below.

Council Leader – Cllr Bridget Smith

Bridget is in charge of the strategic leadership of the council. Bridget also represents the council for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and OxCam Pan Regional Partnership.

 

  

 

Cllr Brian MilnesDeputy Leader and Lead Cabinet Member for Environment - Cllr Brian Milnes

As part of his Deputy Leader role, Brian is in charge of: Shared Services, Customer Services, Parish Engagement, Member Support and Climate Change policies.

 

As part of his Lead Cabinet Member for Environment role, Brian leads on improving the local environment such as through Sustainable Travel and supports the council’s goal of being green to our core. Brian also represents the council for the Greater Cambridge Partnership.

 

 

Councillor Peter Fane

Chair of the Council  - Cllr Peter Fane

Peter leads on our full council meetings, is the civic leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, and helps to promote the priorities and services of the council. This involves encouraging community involvement in council activities. Peter also represents the council at civic, community and ceremonial events.

Natalie leads on services such as: Waste and Recycling, Environmental Health, Public Health and Licensing.

 

 

Cllr Henry Batchelor, Lead cabinet member for The Environment

Lead Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Licensing - Cllr Henry Batchelor

Henry leads the council’s efforts to create healthy and resilient local communities. He is also in charge of the district’s growing new towns, health and wellbeing programmes, arts and culture.

 

  

Cllr John Williams

Lead Cabinet Member for Resources – Cllr John Williams

John looks after the council’s finances, which includes: investments, procurement (buying services), stopping fraud from happening, and making sure finances help deliver on the council’s goals and priorities. He also leads on Human Resources, Corporate Services, Grants and our transformation programme.

Lead Cabinet Member for Housing – Cllr John Batchelor

John leads on making sure the council delivers housing that is affordable for everyone to live in. This includes overseeing the management and maintenance of our council homes. He is also in charge of housing at Ermine Street, Shire Homes, housing for refugees and asylum seekers, and safeguarding.

Cllr Tumi Hawkins

Lead Cabinet Member for Planning – Cllr Dr. Tumi Hawkins

Tumi leads on planning and development across South Cambridgeshire. This includes making sure planning applications are handled well. She is also in charge of Planning Policy, Development Control and Strategic Sites.

 

 

Peter McDonaldLead Cabinet Member for Economic Development - Cllr Peter McDonald

Peter is in charge of the council’s business support and development functions. He also has oversight of skills, enterprise zones, transport and infrastructure when it relates to major developments in the local plan.
